Bitonic

Largest crypto platform in the Netherlands with 435,000+ traded Bitcoins
Bitcoin for everyone. With that mission, Bitonic started in the spring of 2012 as the first Dutch bitcoin company. Bitonic is now a major player and has an important and responsible role in the maturation of the rapidly growing crypto industry in the Netherlands.

Challenge
After the Bitcoin craze of 2017, it was time for Bitonic to look further into the future. Digital Natives was chosen to design and develop the new Bitonic.nl together with their team.






Approach
From future vision to new brand identity and website
For forward-thinking companies and organizations, we create future visions. By organizing workshops, we inspire founders and stakeholders to think further about where the organization is headed and what challenges are present. After gathering these insights combined with reading into future scenarios of the respective industry, we retreat to translate this into images and narratives of the future. This results in a future vision. In the case of Bitonic, an interactive story with images, animations, and narratives that sketch a future image of the brand.
In preparation for the design process, we started working on Bitonic's brand identity. There is a large dose of idealism within the organization, and we found it important to translate this into new words and images that strengthen the branding. As a basis for this, we conducted brand key workshops with founders and stakeholders.
The design and development of the new bitonic.nl were carried out closely with the Bitonic team. We conducted extensive research into the ideal user journeys for buying bitcoins. For this, we conducted qualitative interviews with people and tested prototypes. The development was done together with Bitonic. Digital Natives took on a large part of the front-end development, and Bitonic handled the back-end tasks.

Result
A new brand essence and platform for Bitonic
We have arrived at a new brand essence: 'Take control.' A strong reference to the principles of Bitcoin, where each individual can gain control over their own financial resources without the intervention of a bank or central government. The term 'Take control' is extensively used by Bitonic in internal communication and is also central to external communication.
A lot of attention has been paid to improving the authority and appearance of Bitonic, without losing its rebellious character. Bitonic is the leading crypto company in the Netherlands and is at the forefront of maturing the industry.
