The Challenge

A platform for multiple target groups: information and support around urology

The EAU serves diverse target groups with varying needs: from urologists and nurses to patients and their families. The largest group consists of healthcare professionals, with the urologist at the center. For this target group, quick and clear access to reliable information is of great importance.

The ambition: to create a central platform with Uroweb that supports urologists worldwide — from beginners to experts. At the same time, additional websites such as the Patient Information Portal and EAU Nurses needed to be centrally managed. Key wishes:

• Reliable source for guidelines, education, and congress information

• Platform for member engagement and recruitment

• Clear information provision for patients

• Professional support for nurses

• One central system for content management across multiple sites

The Solution

Multisite Structure with Shared Core, Tailored per Target Audience

We developed a multisite platform based on Craft CMS. Each component received its own identity and content focus, with a shared technical foundation for efficient management.

Uroweb – Leading Knowledge Platform for Urologists

Uroweb is the digital hub for urologists, with direct access to medical guidelines, continuing education, conference information, and member functionality. The annual EAU Guidelines are digitally accessible through a lightning-fast searchable module, supplemented with print versions and a pocket edition.

Patient Portal – reliable urological information in understandable language

The patient site offers current, reliable, and understandable information about urological conditions and treatments. The content is based on the EAU Guidelines and developed in collaboration with patients and specialists. Translations in dozens of languages ensure broad accessibility.

An interactive shared decision-making module helps patients make well-informed choices.

EAUN – platform for urology nurses

The European Association of Urology Nurses (EAUN) supports 3,000 nurses with its own platform focused on knowledge sharing, education, and nursing research.

Our Approach

From Research to Design: Building on Practical Insights

Our approach began with a thorough discovery phase, in which we mapped out the needs of all target groups:

• Interviews with urologists provided insight into their daily practices and specific information needs
• Data analysis revealed user behavior and trends on the existing website
• Workshops with stakeholders helped to consolidate interests, expectations, and internal knowledge
• User research with patients and loved ones clearly highlighted their wishes, needs, and information queries

Based on these insights, we developed a digital strategy, a scalable design system, and a multisite information architecture. This was followed by an iterative development process:

• Migration from WordPress to Craft CMS: scalable, flexible, and multisite-ready

• Frontend in NuxtJS: modular, fast, and suitable for complex content structures

• Enhanced Guidelines module: with import tooling for annual updates

• Integrations with Docebo (e-learning) and MyEAU (Single Sign-On)

• Multilingual content support and support for shared decision-making
