Joods Cultureel Kwartier

Inspiring content platform for 400 years of Jewish culture at 4 locations

The Jewish Cultural Quarter shares knowledge about Jewish history, art, and culture. At 4 locations within less than a square kilometer - the Jewish Museum + junior, the Portuguese Synagogue, the Hollandsche Schouwburg, and the National Holocaust Museum - JCK highlights more than 400 years of Jewish life in Amsterdam and the Netherlands through exhibitions, events, and publications.

Digital Natives, together with JCK, developed a completely renewed website for a wide range of audiences, including parents with children, school classes, researchers, and tour operators.

The challenges

Navigating a large selection

With no less than 4 locations and an impressive collection, it quickly becomes unclear to visitors what they really need to see. How do you ensure that the visitor knows which offerings are relevant to them and where to find them, both online and offline?

Serving a broad and diverse audience

JCK serves a wide range of target groups, each with their own areas of interest. How can you serve these different groups with one solution and ensure that they recognize themselves in and are stimulated by the offerings? And can you interest them in parts of the offerings they may not yet know?

Conveying rich culture and history

The Jewish Cultural Quarter houses a collection and a wealth of knowledge of 400 years of Jewish history. How do you show that the rich Jewish culture in Amsterdam encompasses much more than just the period of World War II?

The solutions

Clarifying proposition for diverse target groups

In the discovery phase, we focused on the organization and their goals. Through desk research, data analysis, and workshops with the different target groups, we mapped out the key journeys and identified strategic opportunities. Based on this, we were able to compile clear criteria and KPIs to make success measurable.

Connect with visitors: link offline and online

The starting point of the new JCK is to better guide and prepare people for their visit. On one hand, people with a busy schedule can be relieved during the planning of their visit, while on the other hand, we design the website in such a way that you can get more out of your visit by providing good and interesting information before and after.

Design principles: guide, connect, and visualize

  • Service at the right moments
  • Visualize the quarter and the distinctive proposition
  • Focus on multiple starting points through landing pages
  • Use themes and routes - instead of exhibitions - as an overarching, connecting element
  • Use vivid images that immerse the visitor in the offerings and experience of the visit

Landing pages as dedicated starting points

With specific landing pages, a digital showcase can be set up for each target audience to clearly show what they can gain from JCK. Primary school classes can follow easy routes for their visit, a tour operator knows which offerings best suit a tourist, a researcher can follow the Research Guide, and for people with children, it is clearly highlighted what the Jewish Museum Junior has to offer.

Make the Whole Visible, Encourage Discovery

By clearly distinguishing between the locations and linking them to different content, it is clearer for everyone what can be seen where and when. This is further enriched with variables such as time, location, and theme. By offering routes and themes, JCK can guide the visitor through the collection and allow them to make new discoveries.

Craft CMS for Easy, Efficient Content Management

With the help of Craft CMS and a headless setup, we realized a modern information architecture and a foundation that is easily expandable and future-proof. With this modern CMS, content is easy to organize and manage in a time-saving way.

Ticket Sales Integrated, Requests Simplified

With a seemingly seamless integration of JCK's ticketing system, the process from discovery to purchase is captured in one flow. Additionally, an easy-to-manage form manager makes it possible to compile application forms for schools, tour operators, press requests, and more.
