Digital Accessibility
The web is for and by everyone. That is why we work hard to improve the accessibility of websites for people with disabilities.
What is digital accessibility?
Digital accessibility is about optimizing websites, apps, platforms, and services so that they are usable for everyone, including people with disabilities. Research shows that approximately 26% of the Dutch population has a functional limitation that can negatively affect their use of the internet.
Design, development, and content
Designers, developers, and copywriters all influence the accessibility of a website. Everyone can contribute!
A designer ensures sufficient color contrast, consistency and recognizability, and scalability.
A developer ensures that the website is operable with the keyboard and understandable for a screen reader (speech assistant).
A copywriter provides images with alt texts, links with a clear label, and pages with a logical layout.
Legislation & WCAG
For (semi-)government agencies, accessibility is not optional. When the European Accessibility Act comes into effect in June 2025, it will apply to many more companies. Consider, for example, news websites, webshops, banks, and public transport.
These websites are assessed against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, or WCAG for short. These are ~50 guidelines that together form the definition of accessible websites.
WCAG audit
Digital Natives can assess your website with an audit according to the WCAG. We identify improvement points in the form of a digital report using the WCAG-EM method. Once all improvement points have been addressed, this report also serves as the proof you need to demonstrate that your website is accessible.
